Rick Carter, of Eutawville, SC, winner of the Second Annual Powell River Regatta on April 23, 2016 excerpted from his article on the Regatta which appeared in Chattanooga SurfSki and in Charleston SurfSki magazines.
"Powell River is in a class of its own when it comes to beautiful destinations. It is without question the most well organized paddle event I have ever attended. After the race, I was asked why I found this race to be so extraordinary. There are many reasons, but the most compelling for me is the brilliance of springtime in that small corner of Tennessee." “Just wanted to drop you a note and say thank you for a splendid weekend. Your event was highly organized, the venue was amazing and the Powell River was a spectacular race course. Your event just might be my new favorite and I’ll be back next year for sure. Everyone has been so positive about the weekend that I suspect your event will really explode next year.”
Jenna Gore, Participant from Tazewell
"I wanted to spend more time with everyone, really. I think joy and I were both sort of in shock at how nice and put together your event was. I think we will definitely be back next year, though! Joy is already excited. Thank you so much again! We had a blast."
Diette from Knoxville:
"It is a pleasure to help the Powell River Blueway Trail Project. I have really enjoyed floating on the river the last two years - two completely different conditions but both were fun. I hope to introduce more folks to the Powell River for recreational purposes. It’s a beautiful river in a beautiful area of Tennessee. Keep up the great work!"
Jim B. from Knoxville
“What a well prepared and professionally run event! It seems like I only met a small fraction of the many volunteers you had on hand but everyone was helpful and friendly. As a paddler, I felt spoiled. Nice! Hopefully your 'first' annual regatta will continue into a second and more. If so, I'll be back. And what a beautiful river you have. Even while racing, there was enough time to notice the river and the countryside along its banks. Again, thank you for putting on such a great event. Please thank everyone for making an awesome weekend. “
